Lydia Hickey is a media artist who primarily works with photography, moving-image and sound. Her ideas emerge from obscured realities, focusing on the detached and the displaced by blending the mysterious with the mundane. A surreal atmosphere is created by constructing settings in various landscapes with the use of recurring props such as lamps, chairs and frames. She frequently examines histories embedded in specific terrains and often travels to isolated or derelict locations in rural parts of Ireland where much of these settings take place. In her recent work she experiments with collage by combining and manipulating fragments of her images.
